An immense segment of the world population - 1 billon people estimated by
the UN- is constituted by the so called working poor: people who live in
poverty in spite of being economically active. Most of them are women, generally
housekeepers, or engaged in the informal sector of the micro-enterprises (small
scale agricultural activities, handicraft, small shops).
The working poors from the Less Developed Countries
have often demonstrated of having the creativity, determination and intellective potential to get out of poverty
if just put in the conditions to fully express their own potential.
The missing element -the "fuel" able to trigger an effective process of economic and social self development-
are mainly the technical skills and the access to credits and infrastructure.
FEM's project was born with the objective of contributing to the solution of this problem, in financing through
grants programs related to education, research and development, capacity building and technical assistance in the LDCs.
All these actions are finalized to promote entrepreneurial activities to support the economic role of poor women
and their access to these resources. In order to achieve all this, FEM uses the technical support of its partners
and associates.
